Julie Sparks

Julie Sparks 2014 Mother of the Year

Raised in Clarkston, Michigan, Julie Sparks graduated from Central Michigan University where she studied Journalism. She moved to Hawaii in 1992 and established a medical clinic in Ewa Beach with her former husband. Julie married her husband Cory in 2009. They reside in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Julie is a licensed Realtor and was named one of Honolulu’s Best Realtors by Honolulu Magazine in 2013. She is currently in her final semester at the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law.
She serves the community as President of the Federalist Society, Treasurer of La Alianza, interning in the Senate Minority Research Office, and is a member of the choir at First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu.
Julie embraces physical fitness enjoying both kick-boxing and running. She continues to raise and mentor her three children, Brittany, Aaron, and Paige, and grandson Diego and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Heidi Kim
2014 Young Mother of the Year 

Originally from Kauai, Heidi Kim currently resides in Aiea, Hawaii. Heidi graduated cum laude with a Marketing degree from Santa Clara University. She and college sweetheart Edwin Sniffen married in 1997 and spent time in Oregon advancing their professional careers before returning to Hawaii to raise their children. Today Heidi enjoys a full life as a mother of three boys (Sam, and twins Simon and Eli), marketing executive at engineering firm R.M. Towill Corporation, and active supporter of community causes. She has lent her time to the March of Dimes, Girl Scouts, American Diabetes Association, and Kamehameha Schools parent leadership team. She is a founding board member of Move Oahu Forward, a coalition of Hawaii business and community leaders, and assists in the oversight of her company’s corporate giving program. Heidi believes in the power and responsibility of mothers to support positive growth opportunities for their children, families, and communities.

Lynette Serrao 
2013 Mother of the Year

Born and raised in Aiea, Hawaii, Lynette Serrao attended Aiea High School and went on to graduate from Leeward Community College with an Associate Degree in Accounting and then from CSULB with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, Human Resources Management. She married her husband Jonathan, in Laie, Hawaii and they have raised their four children in Aiea. She has served in her community through the LDS church as a Stake Young Women President, Women's Relief Society President, Children's Primary President, and Cub and Boy Scout Volunteer. She has served on PTA boards of every school her children have attended. She is also active in her alumni association as the treasurer. She recently retired after more than 30 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a negotiator of modifications in contract management. She now enjoys time with her first newborn grandson, travelling to visit her children, spending more time and caring for her aging parents, and singing in her church choir.

Penny Toilolo

Penny Toilolo lives in Laie, O’ahu. She devotes her life to serving her family, her community, and her Heavenly Father. Married to the man of her dreams for 13 years, Viliamu and Penny have six beautiful children. Earning her Bachelor’s in Business Management from BYU-Hawaii, and currently working on her MBA from American Public University, Penny enjoys sharing her talents with anyone and everyone. As a stay-at-home mom, Penny volunteers at the local elementary and high schools as PTCO President, a Cultural Specialist, a Zumba Instructor, and a Spirit Leader. After 15 years of performing at the Polynesian Cultural Center, she now teaches children, ages 3+, in her dance group, TeHamata. She is currently co-piloting a non-profit organization that promotes positive programs for the youth and families of our communities. Penny believes that to build a better world, we must build better communities, and families, one person at a time.
