2012 Mother of the Year
The daughter of an optometrist and housewife, Janis was raised on the island of Kauai as the eldest of three. While attending the University of Hawaii, Janis was introduced to running. Exercise has since become a very important part of her life and in her 20’s Janis ran marathons and two ultra-marathons.
With a degree in Dietetics and a Master’s in Public Health
Nutrition, Janis loves to cook and bake “healthy” for family and friends. Janis met Garrett Sullivan in a running club and they
married in 1983. Janis worked as an office manager of Garrett’s construction
company for 13 years and now assists Garrett part-time with his consulting business.
She loves being a Mom to her 5 children and enjoys volunteering at church and
with other organizations. Janis was the Hawaii 2010 Jefferson Award recipient for her
involvement and passion in adoption, organ donation and international
missions.
